2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Colbert Heights completed the 2015 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Colbert Heights finished sixth in Class 3A region eight with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Wildcats have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year. Since 2010, Colbert Heights has gone a combined 30-32. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 3A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Colbert Heights has managed to compile a record of 111-153. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 3A and 263rd in the AHSAA. Ivan Denton resigned after compiling a 52-43 record in nine seasons, including five playoff appearances at Colbert Heights. Taylor Leathers spent the last four years at Lexington serving as the offensive coordinator, strength and conditioning coach, running backs, defensive line and quarterbacks coach under head coach Jason Lard. Leathers graduated from Winfield High School in 2003 and attended the University of North Alabama where he played football. His coaching career began in 2008 as an assistant football coach at Waterloo. He then moved to Wilson for three years, serving as the defensive coordinator, offensive line, running backs and linebackers coach during parts of his tenure. He was also the head junior varsity baseball coach at all three schools. The Colbert Heights Wildcats will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2016 season. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. It will be an uphill battle for the Wildcats if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region eight this season. The Wildcats open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Red Bay on Friday, August 19 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Red Bay Tigers finished with an overall record of 11-1 and in first place in Class 2A region eight. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Fyffe by a score of 14-7. Colbert Heights and Red Bay have met a total of 40 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 15-25-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2015 with Red Bay winning by a score of 25-13. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Brantley won an amazing 62 consecutive region games between 2002-2010.
